O37 Carotid surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract Introduction The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety carotid endarterectomy for symptomatic stenosis during COVID-19 pandemic. Method Re-organisation stroke services due pandemic resulted in disease being performed two hospitals; Covid-19 free non-free sites. Patients were referred from multiple online regional neurovascular multi-disciplinary team meetings, managed according pre-Covid-19 guidance. All patients between 23 March 2020 31 July included. Demographic, medical history, imaging, peri-operative, complication follow-up data collected analysed prospectively. Result 28 endarterectomy, whom 21 underwent surgery. mean time surgery 11 days (3–35). technical success rate 100%. Peri-operatively within 30-days post-operatively, no patient suffered death or stroke. There 2 minor complications; one non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, another wound haematoma infection requiring readmission antibiotics. No developed new post-operatively. Of 7 not operated on; medically unfit surgery, three declined had floating thrombus that successfully with anti-coagulation. Conclusion During pandemic, provision diseases carried out safely current recommendations, several pre-cautionary measures undertaken.
